| Duties: |
The Laboratory has an exciting opportunity for a Public Health Microbiologist. We
offer the potential to perform varied testing on a daily basis. The primary
responsibilities of the position are to identify bacteria using 16s sequencing and
perform testing for identification of agents of bioterrorism and rabies. This is a one
year term appointment with potential for permanent status. The University of Iowa offers

| Qualifications: |
Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or Microbiology or
an equivalent combination of education and experience and one-three years clinical
or applicable laboratory experience. Excellent written and verbal communication
skills are required. The successful candidate will meet CLIA requirements for high
complexity testing and have experience in molecular methods and bacterial
culture/isolation techniques. Desirable qualifications include knowledge of
diagnostic testing in bacteriology. Familiarity with QA/QC, lab safety, Windows
based computer operations, and work in a team environment is also desirable.
Certification by ASCP or NCA is highly desirable. A criminal background check will
be conducted on the final candidate.
