The Hygienic Laboratory celebrated the unsung heroes of public health as part of the Iowa
Public Health Conference April 7 - 8 at the Scheman Conference Center in Iowa.
Staff members at the Hygienic Laboratory were highlighted on a poster, in an event display ad
and in "trading cards" designed to educate others about the many professions at Iowa's
public health and environmental lab.  "Heroes are not just in headlines," the advertisement read. "They are hard at work every day
in the most ordinary places: fighting disease at the laboratory bench, creating secure
data-sharing networks, monitoring Iowa's air and waterways for contaminants, and responding
to threats of bioterrorism and chemical terrorism. These are heroes behind public health on
duty at your state public health and environmental laboratory, the University Hygienic
Laboratory."
