"The Iowa Infertility Prevention Project is an important public health
program for our state," says Colleen Bornmueller, Iowa Infertility
Prevention Project Coordinator for the Family Planning Council of Iowa.
"Every year, we provide screening for chlamydia to thousands of women and
their partners who otherwise might not have been tested. According to
CDC, 75 percent of women and 50 percent of men with chlamydia infections
are asymptomatic; they are not aware of their infections and do not seek
health care. This allows for the spread of the disease and can lead to
severe, and costly reproductive health problems if left untreated."
Last year, this program drew more than 100 attendees, including
disease prevention specialists, nurses, nurse practitioners, clinicians
and educators. UHL hosts the broadcast from its ICN training room in
Oakdale Hall. The update is free unless continuing education unit (CEU)
credits are requested.
