Peanut Butter is Source of Salmonella Outbreak
Nearly 300 people in 39 states have reportedly been sickened by Salmonella that has been linked to peanut butter. This is the first known incident when peanut butter has been the source of a Salmonella outbreak, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Kevin Teale, communications officer for the Iowa Department of Public Health, says that there are six cases of the outbreak across Iowa.

"These cases range in age, they are statewide and they stretch in a period from September through the turn of the new year in January," says Teale. "In a normal food-borne outbreak, you'll see a number of cases in a short period of time," he adds. "This one's been more chronic, a small number of cases but dating all the way back to last August."
