Atchison honored as Underserved Champion of the Year

Christopher Atchison, director of the University Hygienic Laboratory and UI College of Public Health associate dean for Public Health Practice, has been selected to receive the "Underserved Champion of the Year Award" from the Iowa/Nebraska Primary Care Association (IA/NEPCA).  The award, recognizing Atchison's dedication to ensuring access to quality, affordable health care, will be presented during IA/NEPCA's annual meeting in Omaha on April 15.

Hygienic Laboratory Director Chris Atchison (center) and Andrea McGuire, vice president and chief medical officer for American Enterprise Group, applaud Sen. Tom Harkin during Rebalancing Health Care in the Heartland on Dec. 4, 2008. The conference drew national and state policy leaders to discuss health care reform.

Established in 1988, IA/NEPCA is a bi-state nonprofit membership association comprised of community health centers and other safety net providers in Iowa and Nebraska. The group's mission is to provide leadership by promoting, supporting, and developing primary health care for underserved populations in Iowa and Nebraska.
