Miss Iowa introduces public health careers to science teachers

Miss Iowa Anne Michael Langguth helped to introduce the Hygienic Laboratory's "Public Health: Pathway to Adventure" to some 400 Iowa science teachers during the Oct. 28 Iowa Academy of Science conference in Des Moines.

Miss Iowa is partnering with the Hygienic Laboratory to bring awareness to the work of the state laboratory and to the looming workforce shortage of 250,000 skilled public health workers expected nationwide by 2020.

"Pathway" is an educational outreach program developed by Beth Hochstedler, training and outreach coordinator, to inform students about careers and learning opportunities at the state environmental and public health laboratory. The program includes
